To look at her you would think Poppy was just another newborn, but in reality, she is 6 months old already. Poppy Natalya surprised her parents (and hospital staff) with her very early and quick entrance into the world on March 24th. At just 24 weeks and 2 days at birth she weighed 690grams, or 1 1/2 pounds. Once stablized, babies of this gestation are airlifted to a higher level of care, mainly, BC Women’s and Children’s in Vancouver. Here she spent 155 days, growing, learning how to breath on her own, and eat. It is a scary time for parents of premature babies especially one’s born so early. Once arriving back in Kelowna Poppy spent another week in the NICU before getting to finally go home. Today Poppy came to see me for photos. I am not sure what to call these photos as she isn’t really a newborn, although a newborn size at 8lbs 3oz, but essentially 6 months old. She can smile intentionally, and she did for me. We did get some sleepy, almost newborn posed shots too which I was super happy about. Mom brought this cute knit crown that worked well with my wrap. My favourite images though are the ones with mom. Poppy loves being cuddled and tucks her little head right in. Thank you Misti for having me capture these precious memories for you. Here are a few from today!
It took awhile to organize a mutual date for this session and I am glad that yesterday we were finally able to meet up. Melanie and Matt, along with their awesome kids Max, 15 and Milan, 13, met me at my go to location. As a rule my family sessions tend to have little kids, so my usual tricks of acting goofy, singing, and just being crazy to help kids to relax doesn’t really fly. I guess I could have done that but I am sure these kids would have looked at me and rolled their eyes. Good thing Max and Milan were such easy subjects. They were naturals in front of the camera and I really enjoyed our session. Definitely different than chasing toddlers. We didn’t even need to bribe them. Thank you Steppuhn family for accommodating me and meeting me down the valley. Here are a few images from our time together, enjoy!
I had such a amazing session with this super fun and stylish family. Lanna happens to be one of my coworkers. She and her husband Bryce came down to my neck of the woods late yesterday afternoon so we could capture some memories of her growing family. She warned me that her kids were super shy but I didn’t find that at all. Simon has just started kindergarten and Myla is in preschool. Little Parker is not so little. The last time I saw him was the night he was born. (yes I was the lucky one to see him fresh out of the oven!) We had a great time playing and having fun in the tall grass. I even got a couple of smiles from Parker which wasn’t that easy! He smiled when the camera was down every time. The sunlight made for beautiful images and I am so happy with all of the resulting images. Thanks Lanna and Bryce for making my job super easy!
I spent my morning today with this sweet boy. Jacob Reed arrived Sept 16th and weighed a whopping 9 lbs 11oz! No wonder he took so long to finally make his debut! Jacob is super squishy and lovey. Just look at those cheeks! He was only 6 days old today which is one of the earliest newborns I have photographed for awhile. His moms say he was a party animal last night which usually means a good sleepy baby for me. Jacob loved being wrapped tight but wasn’t super happy with me when I disturbed his slumber with a position change. Thank you Janelle and Tracy for choosing me to document this special time for you. I enjoyed visiting and getting to snuggle your sweet boy.
This sweet boy arrived today for his session wide awake, and he did not want to miss much. With bundling, cuddles and feeds, and my new shushing app he gave us a few periods with closed eyes. Bodhi was born August 19th weighing 7 lbs 1/2oz, and he is already 9lbs 3oz. Mom and dad both say he was awake a lot last night and slept only 10 min on their one hour drive to see me. I am sure it is because he really wanted to watch me work. Bodhi sure loves mommy cuddles the best. Thank you Ivy and Derek for making your way down the valley to see me. Your little man is very sweet and I hope he lets you sleep better tonight. I bet your ride home was very quiet!
