Last evening Summerland Baptist Church held their second annual Red Carpet Event for middle school girls in our community. This year we had 41 girls through the door and you could feel the excitement as the doors opened and they burst in. The Red Carpet event is a night where these girls come to get pampered. They get to try on and wear a fancy gown, get hair, makeup and nails done, eat great munchies and get a photo taken once they are made up. The focus of the evening is helping each girl, no matter who they are, realize that they are unique and special and created by God, who loves them. The message this year focussed on the uniqueness of each person and how the way they are made is what makes them special. It stressed that as middle school is such a transitional time for girls, kindness to one another is the key to getting through. Most of us adults will agree that we have no desire to revisit the awkward, difficult middle school years but letting girls know that they will make it through, I hope was encouraging to them. I loved getting to photograph the girls and can’t believe how much so many have them have changed over the past year. It was so nice to see the high school girls (who attended as middle schoolers last year) come back and pour their love into the girls this year. I know the girls have been anxiously awaiting their images. Each girl will get a copy of their image emailed to them this week. I am already looking forward to this event next year!
